The original manufacturer filed a case against the generics manufacturer on the context that they have copied the formulation of the original drug manufacturer. The officials from the Food and Drug Administration visit the manufacturing unit of the generic drugs to check the quality standards followed by the generic drug manufacturing during the manufacturing of the drug. Generic drugs are defined as the drugs, which has the similar properties and effects as their brand-name drugs whose patent is expired. The quality standards of the branded drug and generic drug are equal. Generic drugs are available at very low costs as compared to their brand-name counterparts. The main reason for the low cost of generic drug is the increase in the competition when the drug is no longer protected by the patents. The generic drugs manufacturers are able to sell the generic drugs at very low costs because no investment is made by generic drugs manufacturer in advertising, promotion, clinical trials, and research as these things are already done by the original brand name manufacturer.
